Do you ever feel like you fail at being a Christian? Or, like me, do you fear your own ability to hurt people?
Well, you’re in luck. Because when your greatest fear is your own sin, your greatest joy and deepest love will be found in knowing that God is in the business of making you perfect until the day you die. No hopelessness allowed in this life raft.
You don’t have to keep doing the same sins. You can change. If you believe Jesus Christ is God and the only way to Heaven, the Holy Spirit in you will continue to grow you.
Hebrews 10:14 (ESV) says,
For by a single offering [Jesus Christ] has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.“
His sacrifice was good enough for any failure you or I will ever have. Even so, we are being sanctified — which is just a fancy word for being perfected in love. So don’t fear your own mistakes. Don’t fear your own ability to hurt people.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” – 1 John 4:18 (ESV)
We’re not already perfect, but we are being made perfect. And that’s enough. So forgive yourself and stop fearing your own failures. And yes, I’m preaching at myself here. Do any of you feel that you struggle in this area, too?
