On a daily basis, we make up excuses to defend ourselves of our mistakes. “I was late because it was a difficult day at work, and my alarm went off, but I fell back asleep, …” etc. Everything in our beings says, “No! It wasn’t my fault!” It’s like we want to scream, ” Show a little mercy please! You’ve never made a mistake?!”
We cry out for someone on this Earth to forgive us . . . but few do. Truth is, unless we humans experience forgiveness, we don’t know how to give it.
Thus, the importance of God comes into play.
Romans 5:8 (ESV) says, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” For since we were first forgiven, we can now forgive. Because The Lord first loved us, we can love.
If God hadn’t chosen to love us when we didn’t deserve it, we never would have experienced forgiveness. In turn, we would not be able to give mercy.
Because Yahweh is love, He chose both to make us and to redeem us. He chose both to give us life and to free us from anything that might hold us back from accepting it.
“For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 (ESV)
So, I just want to give a shout out to God today. Without Him, we’d be miserable.
